Normally I post these on a Friday, but I won’t be home tomorrow, so here is another edition of updates from the American Truck Simulator modding scene. Lots happend last week, lets recap!
Probably the biggest announcement was from SCS Software: American Truck Simulator 1.2 will have support for Steam Workshop. What is the Steam Workshop you ask? Steam Workshop is a utility to share user created game-content. It will mostly be used to share and publish mods. Along with the support for Steam Workshop, SCS has created a helper tool to upload content to the workshop and setup a wiki environment for all modding information. This should help new modders on their way to create awesome mods!
Rob Viguurs, maker of the USA Offroad map, recently joined Studio 246. His USA Offroad project will be expanded with parts of Alaska. The first playable version has been posted here: http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=194&t=202743. I haven’t played it myself but the screenshots look great. This project also has a dedicated facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ATSoffroadMAP/.
The rest of modding team Studio 246 is working on their version of Utah and they seem to have very big plans for Salt Lake City.
At some point both this map and Utah will be joined (They are currently in their latest test version), once Arizona arrives, this part of the map will be moved further down, below arizona. You can find the Utah work in progress topic here: http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=194&t=202721
More Alaskan news, Hawkbs is working on his version of the Dalton Highway. Hawkbs already started working on this project back in ETS2. According to his work in progress topic the road from Fairbanks, Alaska to Prospect Creek Airport, has been created. I’m not sure if this part of the road is also finished, or that it’s just the pavement that has been laid down. In real life, driving from Fairbanks to Prospect Creek Airport is about 220 miles or 350 KM. The Dalton Highway is an iconic highway and featured in several tv shows: Ice Road Truckers, America’s Toughest Jobs and World’s Most Dangerous Roads.
In his work in progress topic Dmitry68 kindly let us know that he will update this truck as soon as he gets home and gets a chance. I recently tried this truck and it’s one hell of a beast and a great addition to the game. Find his work in progress topic @ http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=201339
Modified Peterbilt 389 v1.12
Viper2, the author of the very popular Modified Peterbilt 389 shared with us some screenshots of the next version of his truck. Viper2 has teamed up with V2obert and together they are working on a big update for this truck. Next to several issues the update will probably have some features as well. Keep an eye out for this truck, definitely worth it! Work in progress topic can be found @ http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=200096&start=270 (for our lazy readers, screenshots can be found on page 32, 30 and 28 ;))
Arduino Guage Cluster/Dashboard(+ source)
This is actually more of a hardware mod, but a mod nonetheless! teknogeek1300 modded his own hardware speed and RPM gauges for American Truck Simulator. This is first Arduino mod for ATS as far as I know and it looks very cool. If only I were as handy.. Be sure to check it out @ http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=202&t=202687

Volvo VNL 670
Aradeth has let us know that the official release of his Volvo VNL 670 is very soon. There are already lots of ports floating on the internet. There is even one on with a review on this website. I try to review only the mods released by their original author but it’s very difficult to trace the author or find a work in progress topic. Anyway, according to Aradeth he redid the entire dashboard and built every tiny detail from scratch. I am really looking forward to release of this truck, it sure looks amazing!
